food of the gods
all you need is love
but a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt
-Charles Schulz
A fresh 2020 article beautifully summarizes the benefits of the wonderful phytonutrient, cocoa (confirming our suspicions and reaffirming our love).
Cocoa has potent pain-relieving effects
Cocoa boosts mood
Cocoa has anti-inflammatory effects if ingested properly
Cocoa lets natural cannabinoids hang out longer
Cocoa/high quality, dark chocolate has been shown to lower pain with opioid-like effects, activate the brain’s dopamine reward system, improve mood by boosting the same neurotransmitters as antidepressants, prevent breakdown of natural cannabinoids, and reduce inflammation including IL-6, TNF-a, and other inflammatory markers.
No wonder it has been called the Food of Gods!
These benefits are achieved by eating only a few ounces a week of least 70% or higher dark chocolate. While it is one of my favorites, it should only be pursued after considering your other medical conditions and clearing it with your physician. Check out the science below!
there is nothing better than a friend,
unless it is a friend with chocolate
